My work is rooted in careful observation, technical accuracy, and informed judgment. Gemology appeals to me because it demands both analytical rigor and visual discernment. Every gemstone carries identifiable characteristics shaped by formation, treatment, and use, and my role is to document and interpret those characteristics accurately and responsibly.
My interest in gemstones began early, rooted in a habit of close observation and curiosity about the natural world. As a child, I collected and treasured small stones, fascinated by their weight, texture, and depth. That early attention to detail continues to shape how I approach gemstones today.
My first memorable encounter with fine jewelry occurred in Pasadena, California, where I encountered a vivid green diamond set in platinum. That experience sharpened my interest in fine stones and remains personally meaningful; I still own and wear that ring. Over time, my focus expanded, particularly through a sustained interest in Padparadscha sapphires. What began as appreciation became a desire to understand gemstones on a technical and professional level.
Rather than collecting jewelry without sufficient knowledge, I chose to pursue formal gemological education and training.
I am a GIA Graduate Gemologist with a multidisciplinary professional background spanning consulting, education, business ownership, and strategic analysis. I hold a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Temple University, along with a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Health Administration from Georgia State University.
For much of my career, I worked in the healthcare industry, where precision, ethical standards, and clear communication are critical. In parallel, I served as an adjunct faculty member at two universities, teaching undergraduate and graduate coursework in statistics, economics, and algebra. I have also owned and operated a small manufacturing business producing handcrafted leather goods sold through multiple retail outlets, providing firsthand experience with materials, workmanship, pricing, and client expectations.
Through industry collaboration, estate jewelry transactions, and formal appraisal coursework, I have expanded my foundation with hands-on experience and advanced study, and I continue to pursue ongoing appraisal education, USPAP compliance, and professional accreditation credentials.
My appraisal practice is guided by accuracy, transparency, and respect for both the item being evaluated and the client who owns it. Whether examining fine jewelry, estate pieces, or individual gemstones, I apply consistent methodology informed by training, experience, and professional standards.
