Items requiring an expanded scope of work, including extended examination, advanced testing, authentication, or additional market research, may be subject to higher fees. Diamond plotting for diamonds over 1.00 carat is included in the standard appraisal fee.
LOW COMPLEXITY: Assignments involving commonly encountered contemporary jewelry or personal property requiring routine identification, standard grading observations, and readily available market data.
Examples Include: Standard diamond solitaires, Wedding bands, Gold chains, Basic gemstone jewelry. Common contemporary items
MODERATE COMPLEXITY: Assignments requiring analysis beyond routine identification, including enhanced diamond grading, colored stone evaluation, designer verification, or more detailed market research.
Examples Include: Designer or signed jewelry, Colored gemstone jewelry, Multi-stone pieces. Custom-made jewelry, Items requiring expanded comparables.
Depending on the nature and complexity of the item(s), expedited service may be available for an additional fee.
HIGH COMPLEXITY: Assignments requiring specialized expertise, substantial research, unusual gemstones or treatments, historical knowledge, advanced authentication, difficult valuation analysis, or limited market availability.
Examples Include: Antique or period jewelry, Rare gemstones, Important signed pieces, Estate jewelry requiring over an hour of comparable research.
Items submitted at the same time will be discounted for items 2-4.

Appraisal update services are available for items previously appraised by this office when reinspection and current market review indicate an update is appropriate, assuming the condition of the item remains the same or substantially similar to that noted in the prior report.

Collections and estate evaluation services are available for multi-item jewelry holdings requiring organized review, identification, sorting, and valuation guidance. This service is subject to a four-hour minimum.
GIA laboratory services may be recommended as part of an appraisal when a property’s identity or quality cannot be fully determined through standard examination alone by an independent gemological testing lab. Third-party laboratory analysis can support credible conclusions, enhance report transparency, and reduce uncertainty.
Gem identification services involve the examination and analysis of gemstones to determine material type and observable characteristics using standard gemological testing methods and instrumentation. Depending on the stone and how it is mounted, testing may include visual examination under magnification, measurement of refractive properties, observation of optical effects, assessment of color and transparency, and evaluation of internal features.
Stones must be larger than 0.30 carat. Rough stones not accepted.
