Each assignment is governed by a written engagement agreement that outlines the applicable terms, conditions, scope of work, and limitations specific to the project. Our appraisal services are designed to ensure clarity in these agreements. We reserve the right to decline assignments that fall outside our professional competence or require specialized expertise beyond the scope of our services, such as complex gemstone identification or intricate jewelry valuation. When appropriate, alternative service providers may be suggested for the client’s independent consideration, and we assume no responsibility or liability for third-party services. We do not appraise items when we are being asked to purchase them or when we have any financial interest in the transaction, as this constitutes a conflict of interest. Payment is due as outlined in the engagement agreement, and any unpaid balances may delay the release of reports. Auction-related research and advisory services are billed on an hourly basis for an agreed-upon number of hours. Fees are not contingent upon, nor do they guarantee, the successful acquisition of any specific item.
Gemstone identification services, whether part of appraisal services or offered separately, rely on the evidence available at the time of examination, employing accepted gemological methods and scientifically established characteristics. These services are intended for informational purposes only and do not equate to formal appraisal or jewelry valuation services. Certain stones, particularly those weighing approximately one-third (1/3) carat, may present limitations in identification due to their size, mounting, or equipment constraints. While standard examination techniques and instrumentation can successfully identify numerous gemstones and help differentiate between natural, treated, and laboratory-grown materials, there may be instances where results are inconclusive or further laboratory testing is required. In such cases, fees for services rendered are non-refundable. Should it be deemed necessary, laboratory testing or advanced analysis may be arranged, with all third-party fees to be paid by the client in advance.
Appraisal services are developed based on the information available at the time of inspection and research. Market conditions may change, and value conclusions reflect conditions as of the effective date stated in the report. Appraisal reports are intended solely for the stated purpose and intended use identified in the report. Use of an appraisal for any other purpose may not be appropriate and should be discussed in advance. Unless otherwise agreed in writing, clients are responsible for providing accurate and complete information regarding the property. This includes details relevant to jewelry valuation and gemstone identification. Reliance on incomplete or inaccurate information may affect analysis and value conclusions. Desired results or value outcomes cannot be guaranteed.
Referral names, when provided, are offered for informational purposes only and do not imply any responsibility or liability for the appraisal services of third parties. When GIA laboratory services are recommended for gemstone identification or jewelry valuation, items must be shipped to the GIA laboratory in Carlsbad, California. All costs associated with shipping, insurance, laboratory fees, and related expenses are the responsibility of the client. We are not responsible for any loss or damage that may occur during shipping to or from any third-party laboratory. Clients are responsible for securing appropriate insurance coverage and pursuing any claims directly with the carrier or insurer.
